ICAC - Cyber-Investigation 101 - Secure Techniques for Onsite Preview

lptico  PDF version of Course Description

This course is funded through OJJDP. To register for this class, you must be affiliated with an ICAC Task Force. Furthermore, you must agree to comply with the Best Practices and Standards established by ICAC. If you have any questions about the ICAC Best Practices and Standards, please contact your ICAC commander.

This 2-day course is designed for detectives and officers, as well as probation/parole staff, conducting “knock and talk” interviews or spot checks and home visits.

This class utilizes a Linux-based bootable CD to preview a suspect’s or victim’s computer system for potential evidence in a forensically sound manner. The CD has the advantage of being able to “read” other computer systems’ files without writing to or altering the data on those systems.

The areas covered in the class include

• An understanding of computer forensics

• Recognition of various media devices

• An understanding of manual file navigation techniques and automated searches

• An introduction to NW3C’s TUX4N6™ tool and the creation of a bootable TUX4N6™ CD

• Practical exercises that enforce and strengthen the student knowledge and skill set.

Department of Homeland Security Approved Course
